Morning Abstraction 12x16 This scene was a small part of a much larger massif of rock and were quite a distance away when I painted them. This simplified the elements for me and lended an abstract quality to the folds of rock and shadow play.
Autumn Place 9x12 Painted way up in Boynton Canyon west ot town. One of the nicest fall hikes I've been on in a long time.
Stories in Stone 16x16 This was the largest painting I did during the week. It ended up winning the artist's choice award during the festival. Festival details here.I'm now spending most of my time getting ready for the Tempe Festival of Arts that will be held the first weekend in Dec. More on that and new paintings in a future post.

Lovely bold brushwork and control of values make these really strong pieces. Love them.
Thanks Mick! It was a great first plein air competition for me (although I really don't like the idea of a "competition" so much). It was a real learning experience. Did some of my best plein air work there, glad you like 'em.
